The Olive Tree

Ancient wood,
timeless beauty

The olive tree gives us its wood only after a long life of bearing fruit. What remains is one of nature's most extraordinary materials.

Dense, aromatic, and visually stunning, olive wood has been prized for millennia across the Mediterranean. At Ursina, we honour that heritage in every piece we create.

Properties

Why olive wood stands apart

Naturally Antibacterial
Olive wood contains natural phenolic compounds that inhibit bacterial growth — one of the safest materials for food preparation.
Exceptionally Hard
With a Janka hardness of 2,700+ lbf, olive wood is harder than oak or walnut — resistant to knife marks and daily wear.
Ages Beautifully
Unlike other woods, olive deepens in character with use. Regular oiling brings out the natural lustre and enhances the grain.
Visually Unique
Swirling grain patterns, warm golden tones, and dark streaks make every piece unmistakably beautiful. No factory can replicate it.

Caring for olive wood
Care Guide

How to care for
your olive wood

With a little care, your Ursina piece will last a lifetime and get more beautiful with age.

Hand Wash Only
Never use the dishwasher. Wash with warm soapy water, then dry immediately.
Oil Regularly
Apply food-grade mineral oil once a month. Let it soak in, then wipe off excess.
Avoid Prolonged Moisture
Don't soak your board. Dry upright to allow air circulation on all sides.
Keep Away from Heat
Avoid radiators and prolonged direct sunlight — extreme heat can cause cracking.
